Kaicrewsade, better known as Kai, is an exceptionally talented 21-year-old artist from the vibrant West Side of Chicago. With a refined mix of jazz, soul, and rap, he effortlessly pushes boundaries and creates a distinctive musical landscape. Kai’s musical journey takes place between Chicago and Jacksonville, Mississippi, where he grew up with his family. From a young age, he was immersed in the world of jazz – a genre close to his heart that has had a profound influence on his development as an artist. In his childhood home, the soulful sounds of Herbie Hancock, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, and Ahmad Jamal filled the air. Inspired by Chicago artists such as Chance the Rapper, Noname, and Saba, Kai has fully dedicated himself to discovering and developing his own sound. On Wednesday, May 21st, he will bring his captivating voice and soulful energy, combined with live instrumentation, to our Upstairs venue.
