Durand Bernarr grew up in Ohio and was raised by his mother, a professional vocal coach, and his father, a sound engineer who worked with artists like Jay-Z, Beyonce, Rihanna, Jill Scott, and Whitney Houston. Music was ingrained in him from a young age, and his interest in it was further nurtured by the gospel music he heard in church. At the age of twenty, he began posting YouTube videos where he sang covers, danced, and provided humorous commentary. Shortly after, he released the EP ‘The Stepson of Erykah Badu’, which featured covers of Erykah Badu’s songs. The EP reached Badu, who then invited Bernarr to join her on tour as a background singer. His talent did not go unnoticed, leading to collaborations with artists like Anderson .Paak, Thundercat, The Internet, and Kaytranada.
Meanwhile, he has also been releasing his own work, including his newly released album ‘BLOOM’. This album represents a new, deeply personal chapter in his career and celebrates love in its purest forms. With his bold sound and authentic stories, Bernarr pushes the boundaries of modern R&B and captivates his audience. After an impressive performance at the Super-Sonic Jazz Festival 2023, we look forward to welcoming him again because one thing is certain: Durand Bernarr is an experience.
