The group, consisting of Femi (who also drums for Gorillaz) as the drummer and bandleader, Joe Armon-Jones on keys, James Mollison on the sax, Ife Ogunjobi on trumpet, and Femi’s younger brother TJ on bass guitar, takes home the famous Mercury Prize for the album ‘Where I’m Meant To Be.’ Ezra Collective is the first jazz collective ever to win the prize, a big moment for UK Jazz!
The Mercury Prize is awarded annually for the best album from British or Irish artists. The group beats out eleven other nominated albums, including records from Arctic Monkeys, Jessie Ware, Fred Again.. and RAYE.
The album ‘Where I’m Meant To Be’ is a celebration of life, a reaffirmation of the hybrid sound and the refined collective character of Ezra Collective.
